Berkeley Mayor’s Student Awards

On Monday, May 11, 2026, Mayor Adena Ishii hosted the 30th Annual Berkeley Mayor's Student Awards. Honored at the event were Berkeley High School, Berkeley Technology Academy, and Independent Study students who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in the award categories of: Citizenship, Communication, Community Service, Extraordinary Effort, Leadership, Performance & Visual Arts, and Sports.

In addition to the awards presentation, remarks were given by Dr. Amber Johnson, Assistant Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff in the Division for Equity & Inclusion at UC Berkeley, and Student Awardee Leysha Garcia Covas. There were also student performances by the Berkeley High School MDT Dance Team, Berkeley High School Bayside Quartet, and Berkeley Vice Youth Poet Laureate Rachel Dunn.
